Argentina regulates gambling province by province, and online betting followed: the City of Buenos Aires licensed operators in 2021 through LOTBA, the Province of Buenos Aires through its lottery institute, and a dozen other provinces have their own lists. A site licensed in the city refuses a bettor in the province a few streets away. Here are the three that scored best in our tests with a Buenos Aires account, and how to find the right site for your province.
Each province licenses its own operators, who run on .bet.ar domains with the province in the address and geolocate every session. The City of Buenos Aires has the deepest market, with bet365, Betsson, Codere, Bplay and BetWarrior among the licensees; the Province, which holds a third of the country’s population, licensed a similar list through partnerships with local casino operators; Córdoba, Mendoza, Santa Fe and others followed with shorter lists. Registration requires the DNI and an address in the province.
Taxes are provincial too: the City taxes operators’ revenue, some provinces add a levy on winnings, and the customer declares nothing in most cases. Accounts are in pesos, which matters in a country where inflation makes a balance shrink between deposit and withdrawal; withdraw promptly. Unlicensed international sites are blocked in the provinces with a licensing regime and used in those without.
Payments are Mercado Pago, the wallet most Argentines carry, bank transfers, cards and, on the international sites, crypto as a hedge against the peso. Mercado Pago withdrawals arrived within a day in our tests.
Ranked by our test score. All three are licensed in the City of Buenos Aires and in several provinces.
bet365 is licensed in the City of Buenos Aires and other provinces on a .bet.ar site: the live menu and streaming, prices sharper than the local brands on European football, Mercado Pago withdrawals in a day.
Betsson holds licences in the City and the Province of Buenos Aires and sponsors Argentine football; the product is the group’s standard, with a bet builder and streaming, and Mercado Pago in and out within a day in our test.
The Spanish group has run casinos in Argentina for decades and holds online licences in the City, the Province and beyond, with a football menu built around the Liga Profesional, cash deposits at Rapipago and Mercado Pago withdrawals within a day.
Bwin holds a licence in the Province of Buenos Aires. The international platforms accept Argentines without a provincial licence and are blocked in the regulated provinces.
Mercado Pago is the method that works everywhere; cash deposits at Rapipago and Pago Fácil suit bettors without a bank card.
Yes, on sites licensed by your own province; a licence in one province is not valid in another.
Operators pay provincial taxes; in most provinces the customer declares nothing on ordinary winnings.
One licensed by the Córdoba lottery; the .bet.ar address shows the province.
Not on licensed sites; withdraw promptly to limit the effect of inflation.
