Best bookmakers in Italy

Leggi questa pagina in italiano

Italy is one of the strictest regulated markets in Europe: only sites holding a licence from ADM, the Italian customs and monopolies agency, may take bets from residents, and everything else is blocked at network level. Here are the three Italian sites that scored best in our tests, followed by the international bookmakers that hold an Italian licence.

How betting works in Italy

Online sports betting has been legal and regulated in Italy since 2006. Operators need an ADM licence, run on a .it domain and must connect every bet to the national control system, which is why a licensed site can show you the ADM logo and its licence number in the footer. Sites without that licence are added to a blacklist and blocked by Italian internet providers.

The minimum age is 18, identity is verified with a document and an Italian tax code before the first withdrawal, and every player can set deposit limits or self-exclude nationally through the RUA register. Winnings from licensed sites are paid in full: the tax is charged to the operator on its margin, not to the player.

Two things that surprise bettors coming from other markets: Italian licensees are not allowed to advertise bonuses in the media, so welcome offers live only on the operators’ own sites, and payment choice is broad, with PostePay and PayPal as popular as cards.

The three, in short

Sisal

The oldest name in Italian betting, now part of Flutter, with a network of shops, a fast app, Serie A coverage that reflects what Italians bet on and PostePay withdrawals within a day in our test. Prices are average for the market; the product and the trust are the strength.

Snai

The brand of the Italian betting shop, with thousands of outlets that double as cash deposit points, a deep football menu including the lower leagues and PayPal withdrawals within a day. The site is busy; the coverage is complete.

Eurobet

Entain’s Italian brand, licensed since the start of the online market, with competitive Serie A prices, a good bet builder and Skrill among the withdrawal options; PostePay withdrawals arrived within a day in our test.

International bookmakers licensed in Italy

Six of our twenty-two tested operators also hold an Italian licence and run a dedicated .it site.

Frequently asked questions

Is online betting legal in Italy?

Yes, on sites licensed by ADM. Playing on an unlicensed site is not a crime for the player, but the site is blocked in Italy and offers no protection if something goes wrong.

How do I recognise a licensed site?

Look for the .it domain, the ADM logo and the licence number in the footer, and a registration form that asks for your Italian tax code.

Are winnings taxed?

Not in the player’s hands: licensed operators pay the tax on their margin and pay winnings out in full.

Can I use a VPN to bet from Italy on a foreign site?

It breaks the operator’s terms and usually ends with a frozen account at the first withdrawal. Stick to licensed sites.
