Payment methods

How you pay a bookmaker decides how fast you get paid back, whether you qualify for the bonus and how much paperwork you face. Twelve methods, each tested with real deposits and timed withdrawals on the operators that accept it.

Visa and MastercardFrom next day to seven days, depending on the operator and the issuing bank

The default everywhere: accepted by all twenty-two operators, instant to deposit, slow to return. Debit cards are the workhorse; credit cards are banned for gambling in the UK and refused by many issuers elsewhere.

PayPalWithin 24 hours on every operator that offers it

The quickest fiat withdrawal on the licensed European books and the one wallet that does not get excluded from bonuses. Available only where PayPal itself allows gambling, which is a short list of countries.

SkrillA few hours on most operators, up to 24 on some

The wallet of the international bettor: accepted almost everywhere, withdrawals in hours, accounts in dozens of currencies. Usually excluded from welcome bonuses, and with fees that add up if you move money often.

NetellerA few hours on most operators, up to 24 on some

Skrill’s sister wallet, from the same company, with the same reach and the same fee structure. Bettors keep both to use whichever a site prefers; the differences are small.

Apple Pay and Google PayAs the underlying card: next day to five days

A card in disguise: the phone wallets pass your existing debit card to the bookmaker with a fingerprint instead of a form. Instant deposits, withdrawals back to the underlying card, no extra fees.

Bank transferSame day on UK faster payments and SEPA Instant; two to five days on international wires

The oldest method and the one that moves large sums: no limits to speak of, no fees at most operators, and the only route many banks allow for withdrawals. Slow by nature, unless the bookmaker supports instant rails.

TrustlyWithin hours on the Nordic and Dutch sites we tested

Open banking for bettors: you log into your bank from inside the betting site, the deposit is instant and the withdrawal comes back to the same account, often within the hour. The standard in Sweden, Finland, Denmark and the Netherlands, and spreading.

PaysafecardNot possible; withdrawals go by bank transfer or another method

A prepaid voucher bought in a shop or online, spent with a sixteen-digit code. No bank, no card, no name: the most private way to deposit, and a method that cannot receive a withdrawal.

Mobile moneyMinutes on the sites built for it; up to a day on others

M-Pesa, Airtel Money, MTN Mobile Money and their cousins: the way most of Africa pays, and the fastest betting payments we have timed anywhere. Deposits and withdrawals in minutes, from a basic phone, with fees on the wallet side.

BitcoinUnder an hour on every site that offers it

The original crypto deposit: accepted by thirteen of our twenty-two, credited after a few network confirmations and paid out within the hour. A balance that moves with the coin, fees that move with the network, and a licence that is almost always Curaçao.

EthereumUnder an hour

Faster confirmations than bitcoin and the network most stablecoins ride on, with gas fees that can jump from cents to tens of dollars in a busy hour. Accepted by the same eight platforms; most bettors use it as the road to USDT rather than as the coin itself.

USDT and USDCUnder an hour on every site that offers them

Dollar-pegged coins are what most crypto betting actually runs on: the speed of crypto without the price swings, on cheap networks such as Tron, and accepted by every platform that takes bitcoin. The sensible default for a crypto bettor.

What we measured

For every operator in our ranking we deposited with a card, an e-wallet and, where offered, a cryptocurrency, then withdrew by each method and timed it from the request to the money reaching us. Three patterns held across all twenty-two. Crypto and open banking are the fastest ways to get paid, in minutes to an hour. E-wallets follow, in hours, with the cost of being excluded from welcome bonuses on the licensed European books. Cards are instant in and slowest out, next day at best and a week at worst, because the delay sits with the card network and the bank rather than with the operator.

Three rules

  • Withdraw by the method you deposited with: operators enforce it, and it is the only way the first payout goes smoothly.
  • Verify before you need the money: upload the document the day you register, not the day you win.
  • Match currencies: an account in one currency funded from a wallet in another pays a spread on every movement.
