How betting works in Brazil
Law 14.790 of 2023 and the regulations that followed put the market under the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets at the Ministry of Finance. A licence costs 30 million reais and allows three brands; operators must host in Brazil, verify customers against the CPF tax number with facial recognition, and use the .bet.br domain. Unlicensed sites are blocked by order of the telecoms regulator, and payments to them are refused by the banks. The transition was fast: the brands that had sponsored Brazilian football for years, Betano, Superbet, Betnacional, Sportingbet, moved onto licences beside bet365.
Money moves only by Pix, the instant bank payment system; cards, wallets and crypto are prohibited for deposits, and withdrawals return by Pix to an account in the customer’s own CPF.
