The legal position
The penal code and the electronic information law criminalise gambling and its promotion, with imprisonment for players as well as operators; since 2024 a task force under the president has coordinated the ministry’s blocking of gambling domains by the million, the financial regulator’s freezing of accounts, and police operations that have arrested thousands, including public officials and customers. The crackdown is the most intense in the region and it is continuing.
