Best bookmakers in Uruguay
Online sports betting in Uruguay belongs by law to the state: Supermatch, run by the Banca de Quinielas of Montevideo, is the only authorised site, and it is a competent one. Foreign operators accept Uruguayans without a licence and without being blocked, while a bill to regulate online gambling and shut them out has been under discussion for years. Here are the state site and the two international brands that scored best in our tests with a Uruguayan account.
How betting works in Uruguay
Supermatch launched in 2014 as the online arm of the Montevideo lottery banks and remains the only site permitted to take sports bets from residents. It covers Uruguayan and international football, tennis and the American leagues, takes deposits through the Abitab and RedPagos payment networks and by card, and pays out through the same channels; prices are wider than the international market, as monopolies’ usually are, but the recourse is real and the money is safe.
Foreign sites are not authorised but Uruguayan law does not punish the player, and no blocking has been implemented; bet365, Betsson and the international platforms accept Uruguayans in pesos or dollars. A bill to license and tax online gambling, and to block operators without a licence, has passed through several drafts; if it passes, the foreign sites will either apply or leave.
Payments on the foreign sites are cards, bank transfers and, at the international platforms, crypto; on Supermatch, Abitab and RedPagos vouchers and cards. Card withdrawals took two to three days in our tests; Abitab withdrawals were available the next day.
