Betting on how much scoring there will be rather than who wins, with half lines, whole lines and the quarter lines that split your stake.
Over/under 2.5 goals is the classic: over wins with three goals or more, under with two or fewer, and 2.5 cannot be reached so the bet always settles. The same structure covers points in basketball, games in tennis, corners, cards, runs in cricket and almost anything countable. Because it ignores who wins, it is where knowledge of tempo, styles and conditions pays.
Whole lines such as 3.0: exactly three goals refunds the stake, more wins over, fewer wins under. Half lines such as 2.5: no refund, ever. Quarter lines such as 2.75: half the stake on 2.5, half on 3.0, so with exactly three goals the 2.5 half wins and the 3.0 half is refunded.
| Goals in the match | Over 2.5 | Over 2.75 | Over 3.0 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | Loss | Loss | Loss |
| 3 | Win | Half win, half refund | Refund |
| 4 | Win | Win | Win |
The line tells you the expected scoring; the odds tell you which side the market leans. A match at 2.5 with over at 1.80 and under at 2.05 expects a little more than 2.5 goals; when over shortens to 1.70 the book will move to 2.75 and rebalance. Most top European leagues average between two and a half and three goals a match, so 2.5 is the standard line and 3.0 or 3.25 appears for open games and weak defences.
In-play, the line falls as the clock runs and goals arrive. Over 2.5 at kick-off becomes over 1.5 after a goalless first half at a similar price. Late in a match, the last-goal markets carry the widest margins of the day; buy early or not at all.
Every operator we tested offers totals on football and the main sports. The Asian bookie and the exchange price them sharpest, at 2 to 3 percent; European brands sit between 4 and 6 percent on major leagues.
