Spain licenses online betting nationally, verifies every player against government records and, since 2021, bans almost all bonus advertising. A well-run, well-policed market with strong local brands and few surprises.

Spanish operators verify identity against government records at registration, so an account is real from the first minute. The 2020 royal decree on advertising then removed the welcome bonus from the market: promotions can be offered only to customers who have been verified and active for a month, and gambling advertising is confined to late-night television. Every licensed site runs on a .es domain and reports to the regulator; the DGOJ publishes fines and blocks unlicensed domains.
Spain is a good place to be an ordinary bettor: fair prices, reliable withdrawals, a national self-exclusion register and a regulator that answers complaints. It is a poor place for bonus hunters, by design. The market has strong local brands beside the European groups, and margins on Spanish football are competitive.
The .es domain, the seal in the footer and the list of licensed operators on the DGOJ site. A site that lets you register without a Spanish ID number is not licensed in Spain.
No welcome bonuses, a small market for niche sports, and verification that can refuse foreigners without a Spanish tax number.
Six of the twenty-two run a licensed .es sportsbook, and our Spain page ranks them beside the Spanish brands; Marathonbet has kept only its casino in Spain since July 2025.
No; since 2021 licensed operators may only offer promotions to customers verified and active for at least 30 days.
Residents with a Spanish tax number can; tourists cannot.
Net winnings are declared with income tax above a threshold; the operator does not withhold.
